The bacteria lives in the scratches in the plastic and can cause infections, chin acne and stomach issues. To stay on the safe, hygienic side, choose stainless steel, ceramic, porcelain, or stoneware, but make sure the glaze is for human consumption and lead free.
Also, don't buy an over sized huge bowl, this temps you to fill it with more food, and results in us dogs getting fatter.
